Kingstone

Many of you will know us as Kingstone due to our flagship store on Belgrave Gate in Leicester

Particularly among our Leicester customers our agents are often called the ‘Kingstone’s Man’ (or ‘lady’). We have also had shops in our Kingstone name in several of our branches over the years including Coventry, Leamington Spa, Northampton, Nuneaton and Wellingborough.

Opened in 1937, the name ‘Kingstone’ comes from our early slogan ‘piano’s with the tone of King’s’. In the early days, bicycles, pianos and gramophones were among our top selling lines! Our distinctive building was designed by renowned architect Raymond McGrath. Our shop front is a fantastic example of his style and is a grade 2 listed building.

Our History

Many of you will know us as Kingstone due to our flagship store on Belgrave Gate in Leicester. Particularly among our Leicester customers our agents are often called the ‘Kingstone’s’ Man (or lady)’. We have also had shops in our Kingstone name in several of our branches over the years including Coventry, Leamington Spa, Northampton, Nuneaton and Wellingborough.

Opened in 1937, the name ‘Kingstone’ comes from our early slogan ‘piano’s with the tone of King’s’, in the early days bicycles, pianos and gramophones were among our top selling lines! Our distinctive building was designed by renowned architect Raymond Mcgrath. Our shop front is a fantastic example of his style and is a grade 2 listed building.

An excellent article on the building is here: http://www.ihbc.org.uk/context_archive/65/vitrolite/taylor.html

And details of the listed building status are here: http://www.britishlistedbuildings.co.uk/en-432509-kingstone-store-

One Company

Right from the formation of Mutual in 1898 and Kingstone in 1937, the two companies have operated as one. Kingstone is a subsidiary company of Mutual clothing and supply company limited. Both companies have always had the same directors, auditors and senior management.

Between 1937 and 2009 we produced a separate set of audited accounts for Kingstone ltd and registered them at Companies House. In 2009 we decided to reflect our company culture of one unified business and chose to fully merge the assets of Kingstone ltd in to Mutual, make Kingstone a dormant company and stop producing audited accounts for it as a subsidiary.

Our Location

Our Kingstone shopfront address is 66-67 Belgrave Gate, Leicester LE1 3HE. There are two customer entrances to the shop. One on the front of the building, in the left hand corner of our property, opposite the RBS branch. The other on to Bedford Street South, opposite the customer and staff car park at 39 Bedford Street South.

We take deliveries from our loading bay on Bedford Street South (rear entrance to Kingstone Building) and also from Jubilee Street and Byron Street depending on the nature of the delivery. Please contact our despatch department to book goods in.
